Often paddlers who have their iPhone on their board or boat in the sun have difficulties with device overheating. This is even more likely if it’s tracking GPS and the screen is on and it’s in the sun.
If the device overheats you’re not able to have control over ending your session, and in extreme cases the device can shut down preventing your session tracking at all.
This is a great idea and we haven’t written this idea off, but we want to spend some additional time considering how practical it is, especially in warmer climates.

This would be a great addition, have my phone in front of me so would be like a dashboard
